In-School Education Program
In-school water conservation education has been supported by MCWD for over twenty years. Currently, science-based classroom activities, closely chosen to meet the science standards established by the State of California, are taught by a certified, experienced, part-time Water Science Instructor.
MCWD funding supports three types of instruction, performed concurrently, each school year:
Kindergarten through Grade 3 students receive in-class, hands-on lessons in water science and water conservation.
A water conservation themed musical show, performed by the musical group Zun-Zun, repeats the important water conservation message once a year, to all grade levels, at each school in the District. Information about this award-winning performance group's water shows can be found at the Zun-Zun website.
Age-appropriate booklets on water conservation practices are distributed to students in Grades 4 and 5.
The lesson plans and activities available below are PDFs and will open in a new tab or window. Developed by a Water Science and Conservation Teacher, the lesson plans tie the water conservation theme into practical exercises that highlight the unique properties of water. For additional materials and information, contact the MCWD Water Conservation Specialist at (831) 384-6131.
