Marina Coast Water District is seeking a motivated and dependable Water Conservation Intern to support the District’s water conservation programs. This internship provides an opportunity for a college student to gain hands-on experience in water conservation, public outreach, customer service, field work, and program administration.
The Water Conservation Intern will assist with entry-level field and office duties that support the District’s conservation efforts. This includes helping document staff activities, assisting with customer communications, supporting rebate and landscape incentive programs, conducting water use surveys, and helping prepare educational materials for the public.
Internship Eligibility and Work Hours
This internship is open to full-time college students enrolled in at least 12 units. The internship may continue indefinitely while the student remains eligible, but interns may not work more than 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.
During Fall and Spring semesters, interns may work up to 16 hours per week. During Winter and Summer breaks, interns may work up to 40 hours per week.

- Supporting the Water Conservation Specialist with field and administrative tasks related to conservation programs.
- Supporting the Water Conservation Specialist with field and administrative tasks related to conservation programs.
- Processing applications for rebate and landscape incentive programs.
- Helping design, write, and produce educational and public outreach materials, including flyers, brochures, articles, and website content.
- Soliciting, scheduling, and conducting water use surveys for residential, commercial, industrial, and large landscape customers.
- Processing statistics, records, and documents related to water use surveys and conservation activities.
- Sharing water conservation information with customers and members of the public.
- Building and maintaining positive working relationships with co-workers, District employees, customers, and the community.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will be reliable, organized, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. They should have an interest in water conservation, environmental programs, public service, or related fields.
The ideal candidate will also have the ability to:
- Work independently in both field and office settings.
- Schedule and conduct effective water conservation and water use surveys.
- Use tools, devices, and equipment related to water conservation activities.
- Communicate clearly, professionally, and concisely with staff and the public.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Use Microsoft Word and Excel at an intermediate to advanced level.
- Conduct internet research and use publishing or design software to support outreach materials.
